Hi There, my name is Tommy the Atom, I am a carbon atom. Carbon is the sixth most common element in the universe. I have been combining with my other carbon atom cousins for five years now as part of a computer server in an old data centre in Dublin, Ireland.
I can’t really See, Hear, Smell, Speak or Write but I can sense everything and I have decided to use my special ability to send my “thoughts” to Brendan Palmer, who will write them down so that you can share the story of my interesting journey to here and what happens next. I hooked up with Brendan Palmer as he was walking around the place last week taking photographs.
It looks like thing are about to get interesting (again) as I hear talk around the server cabinet about the newest thing in computing which will make the server redundant as everything will transfer to “The cloud”. There is no mention of what will happen to the server I’m part of but I know other IT equipment has been sent from here to Electronic Recycling in Finglas in the past and that sounds like it might be an interesting experience.
All this talk of clouds brings me back to the start of my existence, I don’t remember coming into existence, my first “thought” is as part of an amazing feeling of energy with everything flying outwards and travelling at unbelievable speed away from a star that had exploded, one million years after it had come into being and four hundred million years from what humans called the “Big bang” which, this time around, was about 13.5 billion years ago.
I’m going to spend a little time enjoying this distant memory so more about my journey next time
To be continued……………….
While you are waiting for the next trilling episode of “Tommy the Atom, A Journey” why not gather up all that old Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and give Bryan Palmer a shout at Electronic Recycling
